Modern Tools of Communication

Communication has always been to urge to humans. Examples can be quoted in this regard from ancient times when civilization was in its primitive please. Signals like drum beat, symbols, strange voices from mouth, signs, fire and smoke were used to communicate with the groups. Many ancient caves are still the witness of such communication techniques as many signs and symbols are preserved in these caves. Rapid growth of science and civilization has given new tools of communication from time to time. The invention of computers, efficiency and the expansion of wireless transmission has changed the world of commerce and trade. Communication has seen some of the greatest advancement due to technological advancement. Technological advancement in communication has provided a great source of information. Today, organisation, institutions, schools, government of message and progress. In modern times, technology in communication is used for numerous reason like publicity, transferring and receiving e-mail, issuing and collecting information, and many others reasons.

Progression in communication technology has changed the methods we converse in all facet of society, to name a few, technologies such as the internet, fax, video conferencing, e-mail, and teleconferencing add to our capability to join other without apprehensions of physical detachment. We instantly communicate with the correct means of technology with persons from one end of the globe to another, Expansion of communication with the use of technology and other tools of communication is a blessing to the generation as it provides a platform to connect with the people and associates from afar, allows us to utter ourselves in numerous methods, and augments efficiency at social literary, economic and political levels.

The invention of telegraph, telephone, radio, television redefined the very concept of information exchange. Furthermore, last few decades of twentieth century brought revolution with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the world witnessed internet and its miraculous ventures in the form of telecommunication, social networking, electronic mail, fax, teleconferencing, video conferencing and internet.

Below are discussed some Important Tools of communication in detail :

Fax

Fax is significant medium of printed communication. The word 'fax' stands for the word 'facsimile' meaning an exact copy. It is also termed as 'telecopying' since it is a scannable telephonic transfer of a printed message in the form of a text or picture. The transmission in this mode of communication is done to an output device connected to a telephone number. A fax machine scans the message that is to be sent by the sender. The scanned material is developed into a distinct set of picture which is further changed into a 'bitmap' a digital picture made up of a matrix of dots. Now, the digital image is transmitted as electric signals through the telephone. The target fax machine decodes and restructures the image and print it on a piece of paper.

E-mail

E-mail or electronic mail is a process of transmitting digital message by means of internet. In the beginning this method of transmission was confined to the users of computers only but today it is accessible through smart mobile phone as the transmission of data is supported by these devices. Circumference of emailing, is not just restricted to the text messaging. Coloured images, scanned materials, audio and video transmissions and carried out by e-mail technology. E mail is a far ahead from other means of communication in terms of time, speed and cost efficacy. Web based e-mail service mailing services with unlimited free storage space. Thus,
Some important features of e-mail as efficiency tools of communication are as follows
  • Email ensures swift transmission of message.
  • It can be stored for a long time.
  • Proves to be a record because of being a written content.
  • Effortless to regain for future purpose.
  • A single mail can be transmitted to several users at a time with just a small click on 'send mail' option. Recipients are merely supposed to be copied with the primary recipient.
  • Important message can be saved separately.
  • Real time communication can be established by using 'chat' or 'message' option.

Telephone

In the history of telecommunication, the very first name that is uttered with great reverence is a Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922), a Scottish scientist and inventor, who invented telephone in the year 1876 and bestowed first device to the world to communicate over long distances. Communication over telephone is made on the basis of 'sender-medium-transmission-receiver-response' concept. The functioning of a telephone can be easily understood with following steps :

The sender, a person who initiates communication, speaks through the transmitter in the handset.
The telephone turns the sound by the sender into electronic signals that is transferred with the help of wires to the target receiver.
Subsequently, at the same time these signals are played in the perceptible manner to the person on the other end which is listened through receiver in the handset Of phone.
A ringer is out in the device to alert the receiver to take call which sound when electronic signals are received by telephone.
The response of receiver is heard to the sender in the same manner it was delivered to the receiver. Hence, communication takes place with the help of telephone.

Telegram

Telegram is the term applied to the short written conveyed along wires by using electric device. It is a long distance transfer of written message for telegram as it asks for small messaging. In this way, selection of words becomes very crucial as maximum information is provided in minimum possible words. The first electric telegraph was invented by  Pavel Schilling in 1932. In the year Samuel Finely Morse (1792-1872 invented single wire technology to transmitted message via telegraph. A telegraph sends pulses of electric current to the other end of the machine. There was a need to develop some system to transfer language with there pulses and the gap between them. This well-known 'Morse Code' came into existence with its short and long signals identified as 'dots' and 'dashes'. Therefore, a telegram can be defined as a 'telegraphic message sent by an electric telegraph by using Morse Code'.
Telegram was one a very significant and fast medium of communication nowadays like internet, cell phones, and email, providers have recently decided to discontinue the telegram services
